AquaShield™: Built-In Protection That Works

AquaShield™ is a premium concrete waterproofing admixture engineered to reduce permeability, enhance durability, and protect against moisture intrusion. Designed for both new construction and repair applications, AquaShield™ provides effective internal protection that extends the service life of concrete structures exposed to severe weather or water conditions.

Why Builders Trust AquaShield™

AquaShield™ integrates waterproofing directly into the mix design so teams can place concrete and build in moisture protection in a single step. This approach removes the need for separate membranes on many below-grade elements, which supports productivity in tight schedules and complex sites. The result is a concrete system designed to match the service life of the structure, with fewer interfaces and fewer trades required during critical foundation phases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our CBM Concrete Solutions product line covers a wide range of project needs – from self-consolidating and high-workability flatwork mixes to fibre-reinforced, accelerated strength, extended workability, and durability-focused formulations. All mixes are performance-based and CSA-compliant. Our technical team can also develop custom mix designs for projects with specific structural or environmental requirements.

We work directly with engineers and contractors before the first truck arrives – reviewing exposure class, strength development, pumping distances, and workability windows to build a concrete program around your project, not around a standard product. The Gordie Howe International Bridge, the Eglinton Crosstown LRT, and 141 Bay are examples of that process at work.

Yes. Every customer has access to the same ready mix concrete solutions and quality-controlled mixes that go into our largest builds. Get in touch with your local CBM representative to discuss your requirements.

CBM is proud to be part of Votorantim Cimentos, one of the largest building materials companies in the world. Our VC Way is the operating philosophy that runs across the entire Votorantim Cimentos family – and it shapes how our teams work every day. For our customers, that means decisions made close to the job, clear communication from order to delivery, and accountability that does not stop once the truck leaves the plant. The work we did at Ripley’s Aquarium, the Gordie Howe International Bridge, and other countless projects reflects exactly that – sustained technical collaboration, dependable execution, and a standard of care that holds across the full life of a project.

AquaShield™ is designed to perform effectively in modern mix designs containing fly ash, slag, silica fume, or other SCMs. Its crystalline formation process occurs within the concrete pore structure and is not inhibited by pozzolanic reactions. When paired with plasticizers, accelerators, or corrosion inhibitors, standard mix design procedures apply, though trial batching is recommended to confirm optimal dosage and setting characteristics.

AquaShield™ has been evaluated for permeability and water penetration in accordance with ASTM C1202 (RCPT) and DIN 1048. Results consistently demonstrate a substantial reduction in chloride ion permeability and capillary absorption compared to untreated control mixes. Field performance has also been validated in high-exposure environments, including retaining walls, parking structures, and water treatment facilities.

Because AquaShield™ provides internal waterproofing, it allows structural and architectural teams to streamline below-grade detailing and reduce dependence on external membranes. The admixture can simplify construction sequencing by eliminating secondary trades for membrane installation, but it should be coordinated with joint detailing, curing methods, and crack control strategies to achieve full system performance.
