Canada Building Materials began in 1930, when five building supply companies came together with a shared goal: to build something stronger. Since then, CBM has grown alongside Ontario, helping shape the province’s most recognizable skylines and infrastructure, from the CN Tower and Roy Thomson Hall to the CBC building and the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. These landmark projects helped establish CBM’s reputation for reliability, expertise, and the ability to support the kind of work that defines a city.
As Toronto grew into the largest city in Canada, CBM was part of the story behind that growth. The company’s work has helped support the pace, scale, and ambition of a region that continues to evolve, project by project. That legacy is also rooted in the strength of CBM’s vertically integrated relationship with St Marys, which brings together local knowledge, dependable supply, and the operational support needed to keep building with confidence.
In 2001, CBM became part of the Votorantim Cimentos family, adding global strength to its deep regional roots. Today, CBM continues to build on this foundation, combining decades of experience with the resources of a broader network. Guided by Our VC Way, we remain focused on Safety and Health, Trust and Simplicity, and Lasting Results, the values that have helped shape our history and continue to define our future.
Looking ahead, CBM is working toward net-zero concrete by 2050 as part of VCNA’s broader decarbonization plan. This goal reflects our shared commitment to Learning and Evolving, and contributing to a Sustainable Legacy for the communities we serve.
When a delivery is scheduled and a crew is waiting, there is no room for uncertainty. Our customers know that when they call us, they are not just placing an order; they are working with a team that takes the outcome as seriously as they do. Every load is made to order, delivered on a schedule, and placed under real site conditions. Getting this right, time after time, takes more than modern equipment. It takes experienced people who Act with Ownership and accountability: principles at the core of Our VC Way.
We operate as a subsidiary of Votorantim Cimentos North America, one of the world’s leading building materials organizations. Our VC Way guides how our teams work, prioritizing the Safety and Health of our team and everyone involved in the project, environmental responsibility, quality standards, and the well-being of the communities impacted by our operations.
CBM has delivered concrete to some of Ontario’s most demanding projects, including over 300,000 m³ to the Eglinton Crosstown LRT and over 100,000 m³ to the Gordie Howe International Bridge. This kind of volume, sustained over years, requires more than capacity alone. It requires a plant network positioned to serve Ontario’s busiest construction corridors, a fleet sized to meet complex schedules, and teams experienced enough to adapt when site conditions change. Acting with Ownership and maintaining Open Dialogue helps our people solve challenges collaboratively, ensuring consistency from planning through placement.
Our technical team works directly with engineers and contractors to develop concrete mix solutions for specific structural and site requirements. We have produced mixes for self-consolidating placement, mass pour temperature control, high-strength vertical pours, and concrete designed for a 125-year lifecycle. When a project has a specification challenge, our team gets involved early and remains involved every step of the way. We approach technical work with the humility and discipline to Learn and Evolve, living Our VC Way commitment to continuous improvement.
Our aggregate operations are backed by rigorous quality control, with our dedicated staff testing products regularly across all production sites to help ensure consistent, reliable performance. This means customers can count on materials that meet provincial and local specifications, helping support smoother project approvals, reduce the risk of delays, and give project teams confidence. We also track and report our environmental performance, reflecting our commitment to responsible operations across economic, environmental, Safety and Health, and social responsibility areas. We value transparency, accountability, and care, so customers can choose us with confidence.

CBM has been part of Ontario communities for generations, and that legacy is something we carry with pride. For us, being a neighbour means more than doing the work well. It means doing it responsibly, ethically, and with a genuine commitment to the people and places around us.
That spirit comes to life in the ways we show up beyond our operations, through open houses, conversations with local groups, conservation programmes, clean-up initiatives, and fundraising efforts such as Cops and Fishing. These are not separate from what we do; they are part of how we build lasting results in the communities we serve. Guided by Our VC Way, we believe that sincerity, inclusion, and the cultivation of trusting relationships help create stronger communities, and we are proud to play our part in that story.
