Flex Fuel Surcharge

Volatile global fuel markets continue to affect the cost of producing and delivering ready‑mix concrete across Canada. To help manage these fluctuations transparently and consistently, CBM applies a Flex Fuel Surcharge to delivered concrete loads when diesel fuel prices rise above a defined threshold.

How the Flex Fuel Surcharge Works

  • The surcharge is variable and calculated per cubic metre of concrete delivered.

  • It is based on the monthly average Toronto rack diesel fuel price published by Natural Resources Canada.

  • The surcharge is designed to partially offset CBM’s increased fuel and energy‑related costs connected to the production, delivery, and sale of concrete, rather than acting as a simple pass‑through line item.

Threshold and Calculation

  • When the average monthly diesel price is at or below $0.80/L, the existing $2.00/m³ fuel surcharge you already pay remains in place.
  • When the average monthly diesel price exceeds $0.80/L, a Flex Fuel Surcharge is added on top of the existing $2.00/m³ fuel surcharge.
  • The Flex Fuel Surcharge amount is $0.06/m³ for every cent ($0.01) over the $0.80/L threshold.
