This dense matrix limits the transport of water, chlorides, and organic contaminants, resulting in surfaces that are several times less permeable than conventional mixes and far more resistant to chemical attack.
Low permeability and chemical resistance are typically quantified using tests such as rapid chloride permeability (ASTM C1202 / CSA A23.2‑23C) and absorption/sorption measurements. In agricultural and food‑processing applications, these metrics correlate with reduced penetration of fertilizers, salts, detergents, and biological agents, supporting easier wash‑down and improved hygiene control over the service life of the slab.
Because low permeability is built into the concrete via the mix design, Re‑Pel™ often reduces or eliminates reliance on topical sealers whose performance can degrade over time. Routine cleaning and periodic inspection of joints and drainage are usually sufficient to maintain surface integrity, with additional coatings considered only where regulatory or process-specific requirements call for a membrane barrier.
